Interlibrary Loan Portal: 2017-2018 IMPORTANT END OF YEAR INFORMATION

Use this page as the starting point for accessing information about RICAT ILL, reporting ILL statistics, requesting Delivery on Demand, LORI membership, and more.

PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE MESSAGE

Please read this entire message carefully for important information about end-of-year interlibrary loan wrap-up for the 2017-2018 school year. Additional information will be added as it becomes available.

 

Here are key dates to remember. Further details are included below. If you have any questions about this message, please email Zach at zach@rilink.org.

 
1. Mon April 30, 2018 - last day to place LORI and FirstSearch ILL requests
2. Fri May 4, 2018 - last day to place RICAT ILL requests
3. Fri May 25, 2018 - All outstanding LORI and FirstSearch ILL items must be placed into delivery by this date for return to the supplying libraries
4. Week of June 4 - June 8, 2018 - All outstanding RICAT ILL items must be on their way to the supplying libraries
5. Friday June 15, 2018 - last day of LORI deliveries to schools - or earlier that week if your library does not receive Friday deliveries - see #5 below
 


The details: 

1. LORI and FirstSearch Interlibrary Loan - The last date for placing LORI and FirstSearch interlibrary loan requests is Monday, April 30, 2018
 
This date applies to all school libraries, whether you are on a regular delivery schedule or are on Delivery on Demand (DOD). 
 
Please do not submit any LORI or FirstSearch interlibrary loan requests after April 30. 
 
LORI and FirstSearch ILL requests must terminate earlier than RICAT ILL requests because the processing and turnaround times for these requests are longer.
 
2. RICAT Interlibrary Loan - The last date for placing RICAT interlibrary loan requests is Friday, May 4, 2018

This date applies to all school libraries, whether you are on a regular delivery schedule or are on Delivery on Demand (DOD). 
 
Please note that you will need to continue checking your Processing Needed page and your ILL/Holds list through the end of the school year so that all records are processed until completed. If you get a request, and it is past the date when you can send materials, DECLINE the request.
 
If you absolutely need to place a request after May 4, please contact the owning library/ies first to see if they can send you the materials you need before you place the request in RICAT. You can then choose which library will receive the request when you enter the request into the system. The RILINK Directory is available at http://guides.rilink.org/directory.
 
DO NOT turn off (uncheck) the option to allow interlibrary loan in Site Configuration. If you do, any pending requests, returns, etc. will not work.
 

3. LORI and FirstSearch Interlibrary Loan - All outstanding LORI and FirstSearch ILL items must be placed into delivery by Friday, May 25, 2018 for return to the owning libraries
 
This date applies to all school libraries, whether you are on a regular delivery schedule or are on Delivery on Demand (DOD). 
 
4. Week of June 4 - June 8, 2018 - All outstanding RICAT ILL items must be on their way back to the owning libraries.  Please make sure you collect all outstanding ILL items from your patrons in plenty of time to get all loaned items into delivery well in advance of the last week of delivery. Please do not wait until the last minute to return ILL items.

5. LORI ILL Delivery End Date - The last day of LORI deliveries to schools is Friday, June 15, 2018*
 
*Please note: This date applies only to schools with regularly scheduled Friday delivery dates. If you do not normally receive ILL deliveries on Fridays, your last day of delivery will be earlier than June 15 -- it will be earlier in the week ending June 15 on whichever day is your last regularly scheduled delivery day of that week. Please plan accordingly so all your outstanding loans are picked up to be returned to the owning libraries before LORI deliveries cease for the year. Please do not wait until the last minute to return ILL items to the owning library/ies.
 
Delivery on Demand (DOD) schools: DOD deliveries to your library will automatically occur one day per week through the last week of delivery, ending on Friday, June 15. If you need to schedule a pickup of your last batch of outgoing items from your library, please do not wait until the last week of delivery to do so. 

If you need to stop accepting deliveries before June 15 (or before your last day of delivery during the week ending June 15, whichever comes first), please communicate this information directly to OLIS via the online form at http://www.olis.ri.gov/lori/delivery/incident.php so that OLIS staff can arrange for the LORI driver to take your stop off the delivery route**. Use the "Other" option on the form and explain your circumstances in the "Description" box. Please provide at least 2 weeks of advance notice to OLIS staff.
 
**RILINK staff recommends accepting deliveries as long as there is someone available to accept them; this will help make sure that any remaining interlibrary loan materials can be returned before the end of the school year.
 
As in previous years, arrangements will be made to safely house items over the summer that do not get delivered to the destination (supplying) library before the last day of delivery. These items will be sent back to the supplying schools when delivery resumes in September.
