This interactive session will provide ideas for developing effective questions, strategies for delivering questions, and suggestions for getting students engaged in discussions. These skills are an integral part of a 21st Century classroom. Participants will be given opportunities to share their successful best practices with colleagues during the activities.

Mrs. Cathy Jimenez Long is a first grade teacher in Cranston. She is a NBCT for Early Childhood and a lead science teacher. In addition, she has presented various Professional Development sessions at the building, district, and state level on topics that include techniques for behavior management, increasing parental involvement, formative assessment, questioning/presentation strategies, and a variety of science modules.

Both presenters have been trained by the American Federation of Teachers in various professional development courses that they have presented in their district and statewide for RI Federation of Teachers local districts.

Dr. Kathleen Torregrossa is a teacher leader serving as the Cranston Public School's Coordinator of Teacher Evaluation, Professional Development, and Mentor Programs. She is an Adjunct Professor at JWU in the M.A.T. program, teaching Best Practices for Literacy Instruction. Dr. Torregrossa is a NBCT who has been a Kindergarten, First Grade, and Elementary Special Educator at various times throughout her career. She has presented at the district, state, and national levels.
