Expanded Learning Opportunities: Student Voice and Choice

During this session participants will learn ways to engage students using 21st Century Skills and how to use student voice and choice in the classroom. There will be an exploration of work style personalities and how to engage individuals in group and team work using a communication tool.The facilitator will demonstrate how the extended day programs engage students after hours with rigorous academics while still allowing for student voice and choice without compromising the integrity of the project or projects.

Ayana Crichton is the Rhode Island Ambassador for the Afterschool Alliance and recently became a Rhode Island Learning Champion. Ms. Crichton has worked with extended learning programs for over 10 years. She is the director of the 21st Century Afterschool and Summer Learning Programs for Cranston Public Schools.

Ayana Crichton holds her Bachelor's Degree in Communications with a Film Certificate. She uses her communication skills to build and sustain strong quality afterschool and camp programs that focus on science, technology, engineering, art, and math plus computing.

Ms. Crichton also is the Rhode Island Program Adviser for Fuel Up to Play 60 which promotes health and wellness during school and outside of school. Ms. Crichton is a successful grant writer for programs that give endless opportunities for Rhode Island youth.
