Explore Spanish Resources for Students & Teachers

Maria Cotto is the Bilingual Children’s Librarian at the Pawtucket Public Library in Rhode Island. She received her Master’s in Library and Information Science from the University of Rhode Island. Maria is one of the founders of the Rhode Island Latino Books Month Award. In 2018, Maria was awarded the “Outstanding Librarian of the Year” by the Rhode Island Library Association. The following year in 2019, she received “The Arnulfo D. Trejo Librarian of the Year Award” which is presented annually by REFORMA. Maria has been working in partnership with Rhode Island Latino Arts (RILA) in promoting Latino Literature throughout the state.

Dorothy Frechette's professional career has covered a wide range of experiences, starting at Rhode Island State Library Services on the bookmobile, and moving on to cataloging, audiovisual, reference, children’s services, planning and development, and administration. After an initial post-graduate year teaching seventh and eighth grade, Dorothy continued to gain valuable teaching and professional development experience both on the job and at the Graduate School of Library and Information Services, where she developed and taught a course on public relations for libraries. Currently, she is  RILINK’s Executive Director, working with member schools on interlibrary loan school library automation. Her primary joy is sharing what she knows to help meet the needs of the people with whom she works.
