July 14 2A: Lessons from Remote Learning

Deanna Brooks is the Immediate Past President of School Librarians of RI (SLRI), serves on the SLRI Advocacy Committee, and is the School Librarian at Daniel D. Waterman and George J. Peters Elementary Schools in Cranston, RI. She taught her students online from home for 13 months during the pandemic.

Lisa Girard presenter

Lisa Girard is the librarian at Gallagher Middle School in Smithfield, RI. She completed her MLIS at URI, her MEd at Lesley University, and her BA at UMass/Amherst.  She served on the RITBA Committee for 4 years before serving currently on the RIMSBA committee and is past president of SLRI (School Librarians of RI).

Stephanie Mills was Rhode Island's School Librarian of the Year for the 2020-2021 school year. She is entering her 19th year as an educator and is the school librarian at Park View Middle School in Cranston. Follow her on Twitter @pvmslibraryri.

Michelle Steever presenter

Michelle Steever is a school librarian with over 20 years experience teaching. She has worked at every educational level, from kindergarten to college, and spent summers training teachers in instructional technology methods, in the U.S. and the United Arab Emirates. Michelle received her Master of College Administration and Master of Library and Information Services from the University of Rhode Island. In 2018, she was selected to travel with a small group of librarians to Tanzania to study information literacy teaching practices and library services. She is currently the high school librarian for the East Greenwich School District.

Natasha White presenter

Tasha White is a school librarian in Providence, RI where she serves two elementary school communities, William D'Abate and Charles N. Fortes. She was an elementary classroom teacher for 13 years prior to becoming a librarian. As a librarian, she is able to support not only the students, but the faculty, staff, and families she works with. Tasha strongly believes that librarians instill a love for reading while empowering their learners to find their own voice and to become valuable contributors to the larger community. Tasha lives in Scituate, RI with her husband, two middle school aged boys, and two pups. She enjoys reading in her hammock, gardening, and laughing as much as she can:) Tasha’s favorite part of being a school Library Media Specialist is the opportunity to learn with and from her students.
