After 25 years of joyful practice as a teacher-librarian, Joyce Valenza joined the faculty of Rutgers University as an Associate Professor of Teaching in the MI program where she prepares our future librarians. She is also the Coordinator of the School Library Concentration. Joyce has worked in special, public, and school libraries.
She earned a Ph.D. in Information Science from the University of North Texas and her Master's degrees from Queens College and Villanova University. She has 25 years of experience as a school librarian, and also served as a public, reference, and special librarian.
Joyce is a Milken Educator, a Google Certified Teacher, and an American Memory Fellow. She was selected as one of Technology and Learning’s 100@30, was honored with both the Edublogs and AASL Awards for Lifetime Achievement. She presented a TEDxPhillyEd talk at Wharton University and was selected as an AASL Social Media Superstar Leadership Luminary.
For ten years, Joyce wrote the techlife@school column for The Philadelphia Inquirer. She has authored books on information skills for ALA Editions and Information Today. A frequent keynote presenter and author, she writes the NeverendingSearch Blog for School Library Journal, contributes to several other library and edtech publications, and speaks globally about the thoughtful use of technology in learning and the power of librarians to lead.
