RILINK Communication and support received high scores from our members

The RILINK team was recognized for timely and professional responses to problems and queries. Thank you!

Some areas that we are working to improve are:

  • Our newsletter includes space for each of the services we provide: Destiny, CDL, Sora, Culturegrams and Exploring Nature, along with an administrative update and news. Most members commented that it was a useful communication tool, but we will try to keep it short enough to consume in one sitting.
  • The listserv emails were considered an important tool. We will begin noting action items in the subject line.
  • Direct communication with our staff was also highly rated. Use the help button on our Welcome page to begin a conversation
  • Each page and link on our website/libguide is under review. You will notice changes that include both more and less information. The process began last year and will likely take this whole school year to complete.

LibGuides Feedback Was Mixed

  • The libraries that use libguides frequently state that they are an important component of their instruction and outreach
  • Google Classroom or other library websites have replaced libguides in some libraries as their platform of choice
  • We have scheduled a drop-in training for librarians who would like to create a more robust libguide environment

Most of our member schools are very familiar with the program

  • Librarians are working through the learning curve intrinsic to Unified Navigation and Destiny 23.1
  • Follett seems to be making progress on the technology issues resulting from September's high traffic
  • Cross District Loan and Tech support are areas for improvement. We meet with our Follett representative regularly and she is working through a backlog of problems
  • While most librarians are very familiar with the product, many users identify specific ways in which they find the features counter-intuitive

  • Libraries that do use Sora find it most useful to students from upper elementary
  • We can help with issues around access filters by reaching out directly to our Overdrive team
  • Your overdrive account can help with product promotion throughout the building
  • Schools that are wish to limit screen time may be more targeted in their approach

  • Librarians hope that the new version will be easier to navigate
  • Those who use it find it useful, though they recognize its appearance is rudimentary
  • We will use the newsletter to provide curriculum tie-ins that may improve perception of relevance

  • ELA and World Studies departments that make use of the resource think it's great
  • Some librarians are making a point to use it more often but it doesn't always fit into the lesson units
  • Our newsletter's Culturegrams box  will be connecting this resource to your standards in an effort to demonstrate its relevance

  • Not all schools can afford to purchase databases; ASKRI is a good resource for those teachers and students
  • We continue to examine and renegotiate discounts
  • Librarians and students can often use their public library cards to access Tumblebooks

  • It is always useful to be aware of options
  • Most librarians feel Destiny meets our needs and have a comfort level with the program that leaves more time for teaching and learning
  • Those who are interested in change express preference for Accessit or the system used by the public libraries
